Motech started as a YouTube channel and grew into a place where a curious audience of more than 270,000 subscribers comes to have things explained properly.
What we cover
Two threads run through everything here. The first is technology: the machines, materials and engineering ideas that are quietly reshaping how the world works, plus the practical side of choosing and using gear. The second is the unexplained: lost history, disputed artefacts, places that resist easy answers, and the stories people tell about them.
Both threads share the same method. Start with the claim, look at what is actually documented, be clear about where the evidence stops and the speculation begins, and never dress up a guess as a fact.
Why a website as well as a channel
Video is excellent at atmosphere and terrible at reference. You cannot skim it, quote it or check a specification in it. So every significant video gets a written companion here: the same research, laid out so you can scan the headings, copy the numbers, follow the sources and come back to it later.
How we work
Research first, script second. Where a topic is contested, we say so. Where we are relying on a single source, we name it. Where we get something wrong, we correct the page and note that we did. If you find an error, the Contact page is the fastest way to tell us.
How the site is funded
